The young Jacksonville Jaguars came together this season and started to show some noticeable growth and development, and as a result, their future is bright.

They started the year 2-6, but they ended the schedule with a five-game winning streak and took first place in the AFC South with a 9-8 record.

Jacksonville pulled off an epic comeback from a 27-0 deficit to defeat the Los Angeles Chargers in the wild-card round before falling to the eventual Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs in the divisional round.

The team took a step toward an even better 2023 campaign by giving defensive lineman Roy Robertson-Harris a three-year, $30 million contract extension.

Robertson-Harris may not be a star, but he is a key part of a Jaguars defense that showed improvement as the season went on.

In 2022 he posted three sacks, 12 quarterback hits, seven tackles for loss and four passes defended, and he was outstanding against the Chargers with four tackles for loss, two passes defended and two hits on LA quarterback Justin Herbert.

At age 29, he is one of the most experienced core players on the Jaguars, and he will be entering his seventh season this fall.

The northern California native spent his first four seasons with the Chicago Bears after going undrafted following four seasons at the University of Texas at El Paso.

Continued improvement on defense will be key for Jacksonville moving forward, as they were unable to do enough to stop the Chiefs in the playoffs.

Although Patrick Mahomes suffered a sprained ankle in that contest, he still completed 22 of 30 passes while throwing two touchdown passes.
