Shannon Sharpe Has A Surprising Take On Andy Reid After Super Bowl

On Sunday, Andy Reid won his second Vince Lombardi Trophy by leading his Kansas City Chiefs to a three-point win over the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LVII, putting him in an elite group.

Not that many coaches have won one Super Bowl, let alone two, and by doing so, Reid has put himself head and shoulders above most other coaches, both past and present.

Hall of Fame tight end and Fox Sports 1 personality Shannon Sharpe said Monday that Reid deserves very little credit for Sunday’s win, although it wasn’t necessarily a criticism of him.

As important as coaching is, the NFL is ultimately a player’s league, and a coach’s players have to make plays, especially in big games and at crucial junctures.

Reid spent 20 seasons as a head coach, most of them, ironically, with the Eagles before winning his first Super Bowl three years ago, and he has certainly proven his immense worth as a coach.

But Mahomes is a magician, even with the sprained ankle he has dealt with for the last few weeks, and on Sunday, he proved why once again.

Kansas City was down by 10 points at halftime, but it scored a touchdown on its first possession in the third quarter, and suddenly there was a growing feeling of inevitability that it would pull out a victory.

Perhaps Mahomes’ biggest play came with about three minutes left on a third down when, failing to find an open receiver, he run the ball down the middle for a 26-yard gain, bad ankle and all.

He finished 21 of 27 while throwing three touchdown passes and zero interceptions, despite going up against a Philly defense that was ranked first in passing yards allowed.

With two world championships and two Super Bowl MVPs, Mahomes is well on his way to someday entering the conversation of being possibly the greatest quarterback of all-time.
