Just when we thought the drama surrounding the Washington Commanders was over, a new potential suitor has emerged.
According to NBC Sports’ Pro Football Talk, former Duke star Brian Davis has offered $7 billion for the team, one-upping Magic Johnson and Josh Harris’ reported bid of $6 billion.

Davis’ bid was first reported in mid-March, and new evidence reveals that he’s reportedly ready to pay $1 billion upfront and the remaining $6 billion within seven days.
The offer, however, hasn’t reportedly gained a lot of traction within the organization, with some speculating it might be due to the fact that the primary owner needs to pay for at least 30% of the team, which in this case would be $2.1 billion.
So, while Davis might be able to put together the $7 billion he offered, he now needs to prove that he can personally afford to give up $2.1 billion of his own money.
Davis spent a couple of years in the NBA, and he could be Dan Snyder’s backup in case the Josh Harris and Magic Johnson bid doesn’t fall through for whatever reason.
Notably, he would be the first Black primary owner of any NFL team in the history of the league, which would be perfect for the league from a PR standpoint after so many years of backlash and criticism.
For now, however, we can’t tell for sure what’s holding this bid up or why it hasn’t been taken any more seriously, and Harris and Johnson will most definitely hope it stays this way before they have to pay up.
