It used to be that once the Super Bowl was in the books, football fans had to go seven long months without watching any action on the gridiron.
But now, they will have some options as far as watching America’s most popular sport during the late winter and spring.
For one, the second iteration of the XFL will begin playing this weekend, and several former NFL stars will be taking part.

Wide receiver Josh Gordon was a one-time Pro Bowler and All-Pro first-teamer in the 2013 season when he put up an NFL-high 1,646 receiving yards, as well as nine touchdowns.
Martavis Bryant, another wideout, spent three seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers and another one with the then-Oakland Raiders.
Vic Beasley played both linebacker and defensive end in six NFL seasons, and in 2016 he was voted into the Pro Bowl and All-Pro first team when he recorded a league-high 15.5 sacks for the NFC champion Atlanta Falcons.
Paxton Lynch spent parts of two seasons as the starting quarterback for the Denver Broncos after Peyton Manning retired following Super Bowl 50.
The XFL regular season will run through late April, and it will all culminate with their championship game, which is scheduled for May 13.
The league will be in its second season of operations after launching in 2020 amidst plenty of positive reviews from sportswriters, and one of its selling points is its rules, which are somewhat more open and experimental than the NFL.
In addition, the USFL will begin play in mid-April, with its regular season running through June 18.
