The Miami Marlins have added a few great baseball minds to their roster, hiring former pitcher, pitching coach, and front office executive Dave Wallace, as well as former New York Mets manager Terry Collins.

Wallace pitched three seasons in Major League Baseball, spending two of them with the Philadelphia Phillies.

After a three-year hiatus, Wallace returned to the big leagues with the Toronto Blue Jays.

He retired shortly thereafter.

He also previously served as the pitching coach for the Baltimore Orioles.

On Twitter, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reported on the news of the hires and praised the Marlins for adding two great baseball minds.

Both Wallace and Collins will serve as consultants.

Collins, who is a close friend of Wallace’s, managed for 13 seasons.

He began his managerial career with the Houston Astros in 1994 and held the position until 1996.

He then took over managerial duties for the Los Angeles Angels, serving in the role from 1997 until he was fired midway through the 1999 season.

After a 12-year hiatus, he took the reins for the Mets.

The team finished below .500 in each of his first four seasons at the helm, but turned the corner in 2015.

Collins led the Mets to a 90-win season, their first NL East title since 2006, and their first World Series appearance since 2000.

The Mets fell short against the Kansas City Royals, but returned to the postseason in 2016 as a Wild Card team.

Collins stepped down after the 2017 season.

Now, he is reunited with his close friend in Wallace as a consultant in the Marlins organization.
