Some New York Jets fans were bummed out to see that Derek Carr was signing with the New Orleans Saints.

Others, however, thought it could be a blessing in disguise, as it would allow them to shift their entire focus to a better target.

The Jets’ interest in Aaron Rodgers has been a talking point for weeks now, but it wasn’t until this week that the Green Bay Packers granted the QB permission to speak with them.

Now, according to ESPN’s Dianna Russini, there’s some growing optimism within the Jets organization about the possibility of landing the multi-time MVP via trade.

Of course, the tricky part will be coming up with a trade package that works both ways.

The word around the league is that the Packers are actually hoping Rodgers doesn’t want to come back, so they would be wise to lower their asking price just for the Jets to take him off their hands.

However, we’re talking about a future first-ballot Hall of Famer and one of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history, so they would still need to ask for a big haul in return for his services.

Rodgers’ presence would make the Jets Super Bowl contenders right away.

They have an elite young receiver in Garrett Wilson, not to mention a stout defense and a plethora of young playmakers on both sides of the field.

Now, it’ll all be up to whether Rodgers actually wants to play for them and how much Brian Gutekunst will ask in return for him.
