The New York Giants made headlines during the offseason, inking Daniel Jones to a long-term contract extension.
While Jones had an improved season in 2022, he was paid ahead of Saquon Barkley, the team’s star running back talent.
Barkley was franchise-tagged, but conversations about a longer contract had seemedly cool for the time being.
However, as Ian Rapport has recently indicated, those talks could be heating up.
“Talks are back on between the Giants and Saquon Barkley,” Rapoport said.

The running back market has soured as of late, which could be a tough sign for Barkley.
For instance, Dalvin Cook and Ezekiel Elliott have been cut by their respective teams, and Austin Ekeler’s situation with the Los Angeles Chargers hasn’t yet been resolved.
However, Barkley is younger than each of those three backs, which could help his cause.
Either way, the fact that these talks have summarized is ultimately good news for Barkley, and his potential future with the team.
As Rapoport said, “At the very least, Saquon Barkley is expected to be back with the Giants on a one-year fully guaranteed tag.”
He also said, “It’s just a matter of whether he’s going to get the security that he wants.”
The quarterback market has changed significantly over the past few years, with guaranteed money being handed out left and right.
The same cannot be said for running backs, who are doing everything they can to get some sort of guaranteed cash.
Will Barkley settle for less than he believes that he is worth, if it means he can get more guaranteed salary?
