The Colts Have Reportedly Made A Decision On Matt Ryan

When the Indianapolis Colts traded for veteran quarterback Matt Ryan last year, they hoped he would lead them back to the playoffs after they finished 9-8 in 2021.

But he didn’t quite measure up, and the Colts finished a disastrous 4-12-1 while missing the postseason again.

On Tuesday, they decided to cut their losses, as it was reported they’re going to release Ryan.

The 37-year-old played 12 games this past season and recorded 3,057 yards while managing to throw just 14 touchdowns.

Ryan also threw 13 interceptions, giving him a 2.8 percent interception rate, the second-highest of his career, while his 83.9 passer rating was the second-worst of his career.

The low point of the season for him and Indianapolis came in Week 15 when the team blew a 33-0 halftime lead and lost to the Minnesota Vikings in what was the biggest comeback in NFL history.

Afterward, Ryan was benched in favor of Nick Foles.

Of course, it wasn’t that long ago that Ryan was a very good quarterback, if not a true franchise quarterback.

He was selected to the Pro Bowl in 2010, 2012, 2014, and 2016 while also getting an All-Pro first-team nod in 2016.

That was also the year he led the Atlanta Falcons to the Super Bowl, only to blow a 25-point lead and lose to Tom Brady and the New England Patriots.

Moving forward, it will be interesting to see if another team offers Ryan a starting job, or if he will have to accept a QB2 role in order to stay in the NFL for a bit longer.
