During the 2020 NFL offseason, Patrick Mahomes signed the largest contract in league history.
The Kansas City Chiefs inked him to a ten-year, $450 million deal, tying him to the team until 2031.
Even though this contract was considered massive at the time (and it still is), Mahomes provides immense value to this team.
Under his leadership, the Chiefs have been to the AFC Championship for five straight years, making the Super Bowl in three of them.
To build the best possible roster around him, the Chiefs converted some of Mahomes’ salary into a signing bonus, which freed $9.6 million in cap space, per Field Yates of ESPN.

The Chiefs have been active during both the legal tampering period and the first day of free agency as well.
By creating some more cap space, the Chiefs may be in the market to sign a free-agent wide receiver, as JuJu Smith-Schuster has recently left the team.
Smith-Schuster was a top weapon for the Chiefs last year, and he will be sorely missed.
Whoever the Chiefs end up with should be a viable option, as Mahomes seems to make everyone around him better.
The good news for the Chiefs offense is that Travis Kelce is still on the team.
He continues to be one of, if not the best tight end in the entire league.
As long as the duo of Kelce and Mahomes exist, the Chiefs truly have a chance to win any game that they take part in.
Free agency is just beginning.
