The Cardinals Announce They Are Bringing Back 1 Assistant Coach

The Arizona Cardinals are desperate to get their head coach right.

The last 10 seasons in Arizona have been coached by Bruce Arians, Steve Wilks, and Kliff Kingsbury.

All of these have combined for one playoff win.

Now is the time for the Cardinals to start looking towards the future.

They have hired their new head coach and someone they hope can be in Arizona for a long time.

Former Philadelphia Eagles defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon will take over as the head coach of the Cardinals.

Despite never being an HC before, Gannon has plenty of experience as a defensive coordinator.

Gannon had a forgettable last game with the Eagles in the Super Bowl, but his season resume was impressive.

The Eagles led the NFL in sacks under Gannon and allowed only 20.2 points per game.

The newest head coach will now be tasked with bringing in staff.

One coach he has decided to retain in Arizona is special teams coordinator Jeff Rodgers.

Rodgers is one of the better special teams coaches in the league.

It is impressive that the newest Cardinals head coaches continue to keep him on staff.

It is rare to see a new head coach keep any of the current assistants on staff.

But for Rodgers to get brought back three times goes to show the respect he has around the league.

It will be interesting to see how the Cardinals perform in their first season under Gannon.

Hiring a defensive coach is always risky in an offensive-driven league.

Yet, the Cardinals are satisfied with Gannon that they brought him in any way.
