For just over a quarter-century, fans of the San Francisco 49ers have been waiting for their team to win a sixth Super Bowl championship.

The 49ers have lost in their last two trips to the Super Bowl, with their last appearance coming during the 2019 season and resulting in a gut-wrenching loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in which they blew a late double-digit lead.

But this coming season could be a return to glory for San Francisco.

Pro Football Focus ranked their best players, and the publication asked whether they have the best roster on paper in the NFL.

When one talks about the 49ers, one has to start with their defense, which was the best in the league last season.

Pass rusher Nick Bosa is the reigning Defensive Player of the Year, while PFF ranked middle linebacker Fred Warner as the best in the game.

Dre Greenlaw, another Niners starting linebacker, was ranked at No. 8.

On offense, they have arguably the best left tackle in veteran Trent Williams, as well as a top-ranked wide receiver (Deebo Samuel), running back (Christian McCaffrey), and tight end (George Kittle).

However, the thing with talent is that talent alone doesn’t win championships.

For one, the Niners need to avoid major injuries, something they haven’t been able to do over the last few years.

In addition, they have to figure out their quarterback situation.

Incumbent starter Brock Purdy is recovering from a UCL torn in his throwing elbow, and behind him, Trey Lance is still unproven while Sam Darnold is unaccomplished.

But perhaps a top-level QB is the last piece to a championship puzzle for San Francisco after all these years.
