The Denver Broncos are coming off one of the franchise’s most disappointing seasons in recent memory, with Russell Wilson and company unable to live up to expectations and finishing dead last in the AFC West division.

It was a rough season, to say the least, for Wilson, who immediately brought some buzz to Denver with another veteran quarterback coming to town to help the franchise become a title contender once again.

Wilson seemed like a different player after being so successful with the Seattle Seahawks under Pete Carroll.

The once-mobile superstar quarterback seems to have lost a step, and one stat, in particular, may have proven that, with Wilson being sacked more times in one season than any quarterback that’s been under center for the Broncos.

It could be argued that Wilson, at least coming into last season, is one of the most mobile and versatile quarterbacks the franchise had ever seen.

After 55 sacks, it has become clear that the offensive line in Denver needs some massive upgrades and that Wilson’s best years might be behind him.

However, the veteran quarterback will have another shot at being one of the best in the league at his position, as the team has gone all out this offseason by bringing in head coach Sean Payton to be Nathaniel Hackett’s successor in Denver.

The drastic change at head coach could resurrect Wilson’s career after the 2022 campaign, with a new sense of purpose surrounding the storied franchise.

Payton has one Super Bowl to his credit and will look for another with Wilson now his star under center.
