Some people thought the Kansas City Chiefs were crazy about signing Patrick Mahomes to such a long and lucrative extension.
Fast forward to today, and not only do they have another ring because of him, but that contract looks like a bit of a bargain.
He was the league’s highest-paid player, making roughly $45 million a year.
Now, Lamar Jackson has shattered that mark with his new contract extension, making $52 million per season.
That’s why, according to ProFootballTalk, the Chiefs intend to do right by their superstar and make him the highest-paid player in league history again.

Chiefs GM Brett Veach had already stated that he would adjust Mahomes’ contract once some of his colleagues got their new deals.
So, per the report, that could happen as soon as before the start of the season.
The Texas Tech product still has nine years left on his current deal, so the team will most likely revisit the first three years of his upcoming payday.
It’s only natural that the best player in the league gets paid as such, and Mahomes has repeatedly reminded every single one of his doubters that he’s still the trend-setter and best quarterback in the game by a significant margin.
He was put to the test and doubted when the Chiefs traded Tyreek Hill away to the Miami Dolphins, and he responded by posting the same MVP-caliber numbers he’s used to posting and leading his team to the promised land again.
He’s earned his money; Now it’s time to collect.
