Andy Reid became an NFL head coach in 1999 and has led several teams that have been highly competitive and made the playoffs.
But it wasn’t until 2019, when his Kansas City Chiefs won the Super Bowl, that he began to receive real recognition as a great coach.
With about a month to go until the start of training camp for the 2023 season, Pro Football Focus has ranked their top 10 coaches in the league, with Reid topping the list.

From 1999 to 2012, Reid coached the Philadelphia Eagles, a team that, in the late 1990s, was struggling a lot.
His hiring coincided with the arrival of quarterback Donovan McNabb, who was the No. 2 pick in that year’s draft.
When McNabb emerged, the Eagles became a competitive team, reaching the NFC Championship Game three times in a row from 2001-2003, only to lose each time.
They finally broke through and made it to the Super Bowl in 2004 after the addition of talented and mercurial wide receiver Terrell Owens, only to lose to the New England Patriots.
Kansas City signed Reid just before the 2013 season in search of consistent success, and that’s exactly what they got, as they haven’t missed the playoffs since 2014.
Last season represented perhaps Reid’s best work, as he guided the Chiefs to the best AFC record and a second world championship in four years despite the loss of star receiver Tyreek Hill the previous offseason.
Now Reid will have a new challenge this fall, as JuJu Smith-Schuster, his most productive wide receiver in 2022, went on to join the New England Patriots.
But no one will be surprised if he keeps the Chiefs on top of the league without Smith-Schuster, given his past success.
