The Green Bay Packers offense is in for a major overhaul this season.

After moving on from Aaron Rodgers, the Packers now pivot to Jordan Love, their former first-round pick.

As fans across the league wait to see what the Packers’ offense will look like, Preston Smith recently discussed their defense on the NFL Network.

“With so much talent on our defense, we know we have to step it up a lot,” Smith said.

He also added, “Knowing we have a young quarterback, we have to be tremendous this year.”

Love has started just one career game, which was in relief of Rodgers, who was sidelined with COVID-19.

Can the defense hold up as well as Smith suggests, giving Love plenty of time to succeed?

That remains to be seen.

After adding a first-round linebacker in Lukas Van Ness, the Packers have committed to growth on the defensive side of the ball.

In terms of points allowed per game, the Packers were average last season.

PFF has recently graded the Packers’ defensive line as the 19th-best in the league, which seems to contradict Smith’s positivity.

However, the season isn’t won or lost in June.

The Packers will continue to get stronger and grow as a defensive unit, hoping to support Love in his first season.

As Smith also pointed out, he has been tasked with facing off against Love during practices.

Smith’s closing statement on Love was, “We believe he’s ready to lead this team on offense.”

How will the Packers’ first season with Love at the helm turn out?
