Primetime NFL football has consistently been one of the highest-rated sporting events across the United States.
Some of these games have been flexed towards the end of the season, in hopes to build ratings for higher-impact games.
For instance, a game between two playoff contenders could get flexed into a primetime spot over two smaller markets, non-contending teams.
Traditionally, this flex hasn’t happened for Thursday Night Football, but it appears that could change in 2023.
According to a recent report, NFL owners might vote for a Thursday Night Football flex opportunity.

This report also dictates that, if passed, this flex would only apply to weeks 14-17, and teams would be given 15 days’ notice.
Many fans look to Thursday Night Football as a way to kick off a great weekend of football, with games happening on Thursday, Sunday, and Monday nights.
With any luck, this flex opportunity would create better late-season matchups, resulting in higher television ratings.
There is one caveat to this situation, which might throw a wrench in this plan.
Some fans plan out what games they are going to, based on when they are.
For example, a displaced Kansas City Chiefs fan who lives in California might plan a trip for a Sunday afternoon game in Kansas City.
They buy their plane tickets and book their hotel, only to find out that this game is now scheduled for Thursday night, due to the flexible schedule.
Now, that fan either needs to sell their tickets or make additional accommodations to get to their destination sooner.
