The search for the next head coach of the Indianapolis Colts is still going on.

Despite having two rounds of interviews with several candidates, the team is still without a leader for 2023.

While the interviews might hit a third round, it’s something unseen before during the hiring process.

With this being unthinkable, an NFL insider had to take a shot at the Colts.

In his tweet on Thursday, Albert Breer compares the team’s head coaching interview process to the NCAA basketball tournament.

While the calendar says February, it’s feeling like March Madness in Indianapolis.

Despite having several great candidates, the Colts continue to have interim head coach Jeff Saturday in the running for the job.

His 1-7 record during the season should disqualify him from running.

However, his relationship with the team as a former player, and friend of team owner Jim Irsay, keep him around.

While other talented coaches made round two, Saturday’s second interview isn’t based on the same talent.

Before becoming the interim head coach, he had no prior professional coaching experience.

With him still around, it takes away from the talent of the other candidates the Colts are interviewing.

While this explains the madness part of the hiring process, the slow elimination of candidates is much like March Madness.

With each round, we see fewer candidates advance.

While this part is the likely reference Breer was making, Saturday’s presence allows others to perceive his tweet in another manner.

However, it’s clear the hiring process with the Colts is getting the same drama as an NCAA basketball tournament.
