As usual, the Los Angeles Chargers have high hopes for the upcoming NFL season.

Yet each season, they seem to fall short of expectations, and their fans have gotten used to disappointment and heartbreak over the years.

On paper, they appear to have one of the best teams in the AFC on both sides of football, but they need to find ways to put it all together and at least be in contention for conference supremacy by January.

Analyst Tom Pelissero outlined three things the Chargers need to do to have a successful 2023 season.

The first thing he mentioned is staying healthy, something the team always has trouble doing.

Last season, several of their key players, including wide receivers Keenan Allen and Mike Williams, offensive tackle Rashawn Slater, pass rusher Joey Bosa and cornerback JC Jackson missed extended stretches of action due to injury.

The second item on the analyst’s checklist was the relationship between star quarterback Justin Herbert and new offensive coordinator Kellen Moore.

The Chargers were criticized for their conservative passing game, which consisted of lots of control passes and a limited number of passes that went beyond 10 yards, and the hope is that Moore will change that.

He comes from a Dallas Cowboys team that had been one of the league’s best offensively during his four years as offensive coordinator.

Beyond that, Pelissero mentioned that Los Angeles needs to beat the Kansas City Chiefs, the defending Super Bowl champions.

The team has managed to be competitive going head-to-head against Patrick Mahomes and company, only to lose most of the time in recent years.
