NFL Insider Says There Was Very Little Interest On Trade Market For Trey Lance

Despite being a legitimate Super Bowl title contender, the San Francisco 49ers had one persistent problem last season and heading into the 2023 NFL season.

The quarterback position has been a revolving door, with injuries taking a serious toll on Kyle Shanahan’s plans, as it has been bad luck over and over again for San Francisco.

Fortunately, the 49ers seem to have a stud in the making, with second-year quarterback Brock Purdy proving to be the real deal in the second half of last season, but even he went down with an injury in the NFC Championship Game.

With Purdy being the undisputed starter moving forward, the future of Trey Lance has been in question, with the consensus being that he’d get traded at some point, but it appears there was no real trade market for the young quarterback, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter via The Pat McAfee Show.

As if things haven’t gone poorly enough for Lance during his short time in San Francisco, it appears that he won’t even be Purdy’s backup to start next season, with veteran newcomer Sam Darnold having the edge right now.

However, with all the injuries and changes to the position last season, the 49ers can’t give up on Lance just yet unless an irresistible trade offer comes through.

The 49ers need a lot of insurance at the quarterback position, and that’s why they went after Darnold following Jimmy Garoppolo’s departure to the Las Vegas Raiders during the NFL free agency.

It’ll be interesting to see how things pan out in training camp and whether Lance can change the narrative and earn that second spot on the depth chart before the start of next season.
