The New York Jets are reportedly in the mix to sign Dalvin Cook.

One could argue that they don’t really need him, since they have Breece Hall there, and splitting the carries might not be in the best interest of his development at this point in his career.

However, the Iowa State product is coming off a major knee injury, and there’s not even a guarantee he’ll be ready to start the season.

That’s why NFL insider Ian Rapoport told Pat McAfee that the Jets’ signing of Cook would actually make a lot of sense, adding that even if Hall is ready for Week 1, having the luxury of giving him more time to heal would be huge for them.

There’s no denying that the Jets should favor Hall over Cook or any other player on their RB depth chart.

He’s a superstar in the making and was on his way to making history and winning NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year honors before he suffered that injury.

That’s precisely why they should do everything they can to try and protect him, signing Cook to have him there while he speeds things up and catches up without having to force or rush his body to get back on the field.

Cook has seen a lot of interest in the league, and it’s likely other teams will offer him more money than the Jets.

But if he wants to win a Super Bowl, taking a pay cut and bringing his talent to Gotham might also be the smarter choice.
