NFL Insider Names A “Likely” Top Pick In Draft

Of all the viable quarterback prospects in the upcoming NFL draft, the best one seems to be the University of Alabama’s Bryce Young.

Although his skills are undeniable, many have had questions about his modest stature, as he is listed at six feet tall and 194 pounds, although he is likely an inch or two shorter than his listed height.

Still, NFL insider Ian Rapoport says that Young’s size, or lack thereof won’t prevent him from likely being the first player chosen in the draft next month.

Young won the Heisman Trophy in 2021 after putting up 4,872 yards and 47 touchdowns, and although his numbers went down a bit this past season, he still posted 3,328 yards and 32 touchdown passes.

He has done a good job of protecting the ball, as he has thrown just 12 interceptions over the last two seasons, and his career completion rate of 65.8 percent is pretty solid.

Being somewhat undersized isn’t an automatic failure for quarterbacks at the NFL level, but such players will need to be very strong, if not elite in at least one other area in order to compensate for not being an impressive physical specimen.

If Young is able to consistently escape the pocket and elude pass rushers while being accurate with passes thrown while on the run, perhaps he can avoid taking the type of big hits that could cause significant injuries.

Since he isn’t a real threat to move the chains with his legs, perhaps a good model for him to follow is Hall of Famer Drew Brees, who was six-feet tall and 209 pounds.
