The Philadelphia Eagles had a remarkable season in 2022 as they posted top five marks on both offense and defense.
This led to a Super Bowl appearance for them, falling just short of the Lombardi Trophy.
One of the main reasons for this success was an improved year from Jalen Hurts.
As NFL Network’s James Palmer points out, while in the pocket, Hurts led the league in completion percentage, TD-INT ratio, and passer rating.
From the inside, Jalen Hurts led the NFL in:
–PCT
– TD-INT ratio
– Passer RatingLook at the improvement:
– 2021: 66.2 comp pct, 7.3 yds/att, 9 TD, 8 INT, 86.7 passer rating
– 2022: 72.6 comp pct, 8.7 yds/att, 20 TD, 4 INT, 111.8 passer rating—James Palmer (@JamesPalmerTV) June 29, 2023
This was a marked improvement over his 2021 campaign, which Palmer highlights.
His completion percentage was up nearly six points, he had 1.5 more yards per attempt and 11 more touchdown passes.
He also had four fewer interceptions, and his passer rating was well above his 2021 numbers.
This is an indication that Hurts is much more than a running quarterback and has improved his balance in the pocket.
With this upgrade in mind, Hurts was a finalist for the league MVP award, trailing Patrick Mahomes.
Any questions raised by Hurts skeptics have now been muted, and he can move on, looking ahead to the 2023 campaign.
As the 2023 season approaches, Hurts can take solace in the fact that his offensive line has stayed pretty much the same.
Jason Kelce will continue to throw the ball at him as he decided to come back for another season.
Ultimately, it looks like Hurts and the Eagles were able to fix everything last year, putting them on an elite trajectory.
Can Hurts and this roster take the next step and win a Super Bowl, something that was within reach in 2022?
