The New York Mets just lost starting pitcher Jose Quintana for at least the first three months of the season, and they can’t afford to be without another member of the rotation for long.

Kodai Senga, signed by the Mets to a lucrative five-year deal, has been dealing with a sore right index finger for a few days now.

After being scratched from his last scheduled start, he graduated from throwing from flat ground a couple of days ago to a bullpen session on Tuesday.

Now, he is ready to return to the mound.

“Kodai Senga expects to start tomorrow for the Mets: ‘As long as Buck says I’m going, I’m going,’” SNY tweeted, with a video of an interview with the talented hurler.

Senga has turned heads in Mets camp with his ghost forkball, his impressive fastball velocity, and his deep repertoire.

He has the potential of being one of the best Japanese pitchers in MLB.

He is entering the league at the right age (he just turned 30 a little over a month ago) after having dominated the Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) for a whopping 11 seasons, with a 2.42 ERA.

In 2022, he posted an impeccable 1.89 ERA while pitching for the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks.

The Mets signed a good one in Senga, but he will need to prove that he can dominate in the hardest league in the world like Hideo Nomo, Daisuke Matsuzaka, Kazuhiro Sasaki, Hiroki Kuroda, Yu Darvish and Shohei Ohtani before him.

He has the makeup, the talent, and the motivation to succeed in the majors.
