The Indianapolis Colts made a shocking move on Monday.

Owner Jim Irsay started the day by announcing Frank Reich had been fired as head coach.

Then he followed that shocking news with something even more surprising.

In a move no one saw coming, the Colts named ESPN analyst Jeff Saturday as their interim head coach.

In most cases, one of the assistant coaches is in the interim role.

But, not in this case.

Saturday made history when he agreed to take the interim job.

He became the first NFL head coach in the Super Bowl era with no prior NFL or college coaching experience.

Even though Saturday has never been a college or NFL coach, he has been a consultant with the Colts this season.

This move seems to make no sense other than the fact that the Colts want to tank the season.

They just lost 26-3 to the Patriots and they need to find themselves another franchise QB.

How Can Saturday Help?

One thing that will be interesting is what Saturday does at quarterback.

Will he continue to play Sam Ehlinger or will he go back to veteran Matt Ryan?

If Ryan is healthy, he probably gives them a better chance at winning games.

Also, Saturday was a six-time Pro-Bowl center, so maybe he can help fix some of the issues on their offensive line.

What was expected to be one of the best units in the NFL, the Indy offensive line has been bad.

Since Saturday has no experience as an offensive play-caller it will be interesting to see who he gives that job to as well.

At the end of the day, the Colts have a lot of questions that need to be answered as they try to survive the rest of this season.
