Super Bowl week is important for so many across the NFL, not just for the two teams playing.

Tonight, many awards across the league will be handed out, including MVP, Rookie of the Year, Coach of the Year, etc.

Last night, however, one Buffalo Bills player received a special honor, one that is not regarded lightly.

Damar Hamlin was given the Alan Page Community Award last night.

This award was renamed in 2018, as he was an incredible advocate for change off the playing field.

Page was on the Minnesota Supreme Court for 23 years, and has been credited with making a major difference, both in Minnesota and across the entire country as well.

If you were to ask the average NFL fan in early January if they had heard of Damar Hamlin, the answer would have likely been no.

However, after Hamlin’s injury on Monday Night Football against the Cincinnati Bengals, the whole world learned his name.

In Hamlin’s honor, over nine million dollars were donated to a charitable contribution, one that was designed to help children get toys, and other supplies around the holidays.

For many players, the Alan Page Award, along with the Walter Payton Man of the Year award, are the most humbling that you can receive.

Yes, NFL players continue to make their impact felt on the field.

But, many of them also try to use their platform for good, which is why players like Hamlin are given these awards.

Tune in to the NFL Honors tonight, where the Walter Payton Man of the Year winner will be crowned.
