The running back market has been terrible in this year’s NFL offseason.

The Minnesota Vikings contributed to that by cutting ties with Dalvin Cook, one of the best in business at that position.

Recently, when asked about his situation, the former Vikings Pro Bowler claimed that he wants to join a team where he can make a difference and be that X-factor that could finally take them over the hump.

“I want to go and be the piece that can just help somebody win and get over the hump and whatever that situation comes with, if it comes with me taking less reps, but me being in the perfect situation to hold up that trophy, I don’t mind. I just wanna go somewhere I can just get the ball and just help somebody win, and turn the next page,” Cook said, via NFL.com.

Notably, most of his rumored suitors fit that description, as he’s been tied to the Denver Broncos, Miami Dolphins, Buffalo Bills, and New York Jets.

But, just like most star running backs currently working their way back to the league, Cook might be better off just playing the waiting game.

Injuries, hold-outs, and whatnot could open the door for a better opportunity to play for a contender.

Cook isn’t the only former star RB waiting to figure out what to do with his future.

Ezekiel Elliott, Kareem Hunt, and Melvin Gordon are also in a similar position, and there are strong rumors about Saquon Barkley deciding to sit out the season.

That just shows how expendable this position has become in modern football after being the cornerstone of the offense back in the day.

Teams don’t want to sign aging RBs to long-term deals, and some of them might not even get another shot in the league.
