The New England Patriots were fortunate to have Tom Brady for the majority of his career.
Back in 2000, when the Patriots selected Brady 199th overall, no one thought his career would play out this way.
One man thankful it did is long-time Patriots head coach Bill Belichick.
After Brady was drafted in 2000, he only played one game in his rookie season and attempted three passes.
But, in Week 2 of the 2001 season, after an injury to Drew Bledsoe, Brady was vaulted into the starting role.
Belichick was then given a tough decision on whether to start Brady the rest of that season or go back to Bledsoe.
Luckily, Belichick made the right call.
Probably the smartest decision in NFL history 😂 pic.twitter.com/BrdBYqfoZG

Once Brady took over as the starter, he never looked back.
There is no question that the decision to draft and start Brady was the best of Belichick’s career.
Brady proceeded to start the next 19 seasons with the Patriots and led the team to six Super Bowl titles.
There has not been a better quarterback-coach duo in NFL history than Brady and Belichick.
They created a dynasty in New England that will never be repeated.
Both Brady and Belichick had the utmost respect for each other.
Which was a big reason for their success over the years.
During their time in New England, Brady and Belichick had a record of 219-64.
They had 19 consecutive winning seasons together and created the greatest dynasty in NFL history.
Overall, this duo will go down as the best in NFL history, and it was certainly unexpected.
