It has been a rough few years for former No. 1 overall pick Baker Mayfield, as the veteran quarterback has gone through some drastic ups and downs in an NFL career that had been leading in the wrong direction.
Mayfield began his NFL career with the Cleveland Browns, who selected him as the top pick in the 2018 NFL Draft.
Mayfield’s time with the Browns didn’t go well and ended ugly, but on Tuesday, the journeyman quarterback put his bad memories in Cleveland behind him for a bit as he mourned the loss of his former Browns teammate Chris Smith, who recently passed away.
To know him was to love him. Heaven got a good one. We’ll never forget you and we’ll always miss you. RIP Chris 💔 pic.twitter.com/KCrceHjAKf

The Browns franchise also paid their respects to Smith and his family after hearing the news of the passing of the team’s former defensive end.
We are deeply saddened by the passing of former Browns DE Chris Smith.
Chris was one of the kindest people, teammates and friends we’ve had in our organization. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time. pic.twitter.com/K8HySW4erM

Smith played for the Browns during the 2018 and 2019 NFL seasons and was eventually waived by the team in December of 2019.
The University of Arkansas product was drafted in the fifth round of the 2014 NFL Draft by the Jacksonville Jaguars and went on to play for seven teams in the league, including stints with the Cincinnati Bengals, Carolina Panthers, Las Vegas Raiders, Baltimore Ravens and Houston Texans.
Recently, Smith signed with the Seattle Sea Dragons of the XFL before passing away on April 17.
As for Mayfield, the 28-year-old has gotten another chance to be a starting quarterback in the league after playing well for the Los Angeles Rams following a season-ending injury to Matthew Stafford.
Mayfield recently signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers following the retirement of superstar Tom Brady.
