The Carolina Panthers are reportedly in no rush to have Bryce Young on the field.
While HC Frank Reich will still have plenty of time to decide who will be QB1, he has already hinted at the possibility of starting Andy Dalton instead of the first pick.
Needless to say, that’s no surprise to Red Rifle, as he recently stated that he still sees himself as an NFL starter, via ProFootballTalk.

Dalton claimed that as soon as he doesn’t think he’s better than 32 guys playing his position, he’s going to walk away from the game.
He also appreciated the situation he’s in now, as Reich and his QB coach Josh McCown were lifetime substitutes in the league, so they know how much continuity means to a QB entering the final stage of his career.
Truth be told, it’s hard to put the current version ahead of the other starting starters in the league, and while Young hasn’t taken a single hit in the pros, it could even be argued that he’s better than this version of Dalton.
The Panthers are right to take it easy on their prized rookie, but it’s not like they expect to win many games with Dalton leading the way.
He wasn’t elite when he was in his prime, so expecting him to lead the way at 35 would be wishful thinking.
If nothing else, he’s one of the best subs in the game, and humble enough to serve as a mentor if that’s what’s required of him.
