The Dallas Cowboys wanted to make a move at the trade deadline.
They know wide receiver depth is a weakness on their roster and the Cowboys tried to acquire Texans WR Brandin Cooks.
After a Tuesday full of negotiations with the Texans, Dallas was unable to agree on a deal.
Cooks wanted to get traded, especially to contend, but it did not work out.
NFL insider, Jordan Schultz, said the $18 million due to Cooks next year was a hold-up in the deal.
Circling back on the failed Brandin Cooks/#Cowboys trade:sources tell @theScore it was very real and that Cooks would have loved to play with Dak Prescott. Dallas felt Cooks was a great fit as well. Key issue was the #Texans wouldn’t eat any of Cooks’ $18M guarantee next season.

This was a missed opportunity for a Cowboys team that looks like one of the best in the NFL.
Adding another playmaker is never a bad idea, but Dallas was unable to eat that hefty contract Cooks has.
Finding A Wide Receiver
Despite the Cowboys not being able to land Cooks, that does not mean they will not look to add a receiver from free agency.
Cowboys VP Stephen Jones talked about how trades not being the only way to add players.
Cowboys VP Stephen Jones on the team not making any trades yesterday: “It was an intense day. Felt like we had some things that might work out, but unfortunately they didn’t, on several fronts.… We’re very pleased with our team. (Trades) aren’t the only way you acquire players.” pic.twitter.com/fBRq3tMMsh

One player that stands out when you hear that is Odell Beckham Jr.
The former Ram is still recovering from a torn ACL and he should be ready to play by late November or early December.
Beckham would be another great receiver for the Cowboys as they look for a big-play threat.
Dallas should also keep an eye on the Cooks situation in Houston.
He does not want to be there and it is likely he requests a release.
If that happens, the Cowboys should jump all over the opportunity to get the player they coveted at the trade deadline.
