On Tuesday, Team Mexico picked up an important win in the World Baseball Classic against Great Britain.
Mexico won by a final score of 2-1.
The win also improved their record to 2-1 and put them on the cusp of the quarterfinals.
While right-hander Taijuan Walker dominated for four innings, striking out eight batters and not allowing a run, it was catcher Alexis Wilson who led the way with two hits and two RBI.
Wilson, a former minor leaguer in the St. Louis Cardinals organization, was supposed to be the bullpen catcher for Team Mexico, but has since been elevated to a much larger role.
After the game, Wilson discussed his clutch performance with MLB Network insider Jon Morosi.

Wilson told Morosi that he was doing everything he could to focus on every at-bat while at the plate, and that it ultimately helped him deliver a great performance which led Mexico to a win.
He also said he was thankful for the opportunity to compete in the WBC with his teammates.
Wilson also discussed his journey from being the bullpen catcher to the starting catcher, saying that while he was at home, he was going to make sure and stay ready in case the opportunity ever arose for him to take on a bigger role.
Ultimately, that is what has taken place.
Finally, Wilson discussed the dominance of his batterymate in Walker, saying that Walker is an easy pitcher to work with because of his talent.
He also praised the bullpen for their efforts.
