For decades, the Pittsburgh Steelers have made it a priority to build off their defense and running game, and this season won’t be the exception to that rule.
Mike Tomlin is well aware of the fact that they will always have a better shot at winning games with an elite defense, so they’ve started making moves to revamp that already-intimidating defensive unit.
According to NFL insider Tom Pelissero, the Steelers have already agreed to terms with former Washington Commanders star linebacker Cole Holcomb, and he’s just a physical away from becoming the team’s latest signing.

Jordan Schultz of The Score pointed out that the team will meet with Holcomb on Thursday to undergo that physical, with a three-year deal reportedly on the table.
The talented linebacker is expected to have a prominent role next to Mark Robinson and Myles Jack in the team’s inside LB room, making him one of the best in the league.
The Steelers missed on Cowboys star Leighton Vander Esch — who decided to stay in Dallas — so they didn’t waste a second to try and get one of the second-best guys available in free agency.
Over the past four years, Holcomb made 48 starts and logged 388 tackles and three picks as one of the captains for Ron Rivera’s team, so he comes with plenty of experience and pedigree from another defensive-minded coach.
Now, he’ll look to keep Tomlin’s impressive winning-season streak alive for the next three campaigns at the very least.
