NFL Insider Names A Likely Successor For Andy Reid

After winning his second Super Bowl in four years on Sunday, Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid announced that he will be putting off retirement.

However, he is 64 years old, which makes him one of the NFL’s oldest head coaches, and therefore he cannot be that far away from inevitably calling it a career.

It looks like the Chiefs have put together a succession plan, as Matt Nagy has been promoted to offensive coordinator after Eric Bieniemy left to join the Washington Commanders, and he could end up replacing Reid in the near future.

Nagy, who is 44 years old, has been around the NFL ever since 2008 when he started out as a coaching intern, ironically for the Philadelphia Eagles, the team the Chiefs defeated in the Super Bowl.

Back then, Reid was the team’s head coach, and Nagy would get promoted to a coaching assistant and an offensive quality coach a few years later.

He then spent five years with the Chiefs as a quarterbacks coach and their offensive coordinator before being the Chicago Bears’ head coach for four seasons.

For now, Nagy will be tasked with keeping Kansas City’s offense at or near the top of the NFL.

The fact that they finished first in points, total yards, first downs and passing touchdowns despite losing star wide receiver Tyreek Hill last offseason is pretty remarkable.

Plenty of credit goes to the emergence of JuJu Smith-Schuster as a stud wideout, as well as running back Jerick McKinnon for tallying 512 receiving yards and nine receiving touchdowns.

Of course, the biggest factor is quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who proved he’s still the best in the business despite a lot of talk in the preseason that the Buffalo Bills’ Josh Allen was the favorite to win the MVP award.
