2 Reasons Why Kenny Golladay Never Lived Up To The Contract

After the 2020-21 season, the New York Giants signed wide receiver Kenny Golladay to be their top receiving option.

However, the 4-year, $72 million contract lives in infamy as Golladay has produced next to nothing while with the Giants.

In his two seasons, Golladay has only recorded 602 receiving yards and just 81 yards this year.

He also recorded his first career touchdown with the Giants in their Week 18 game against the Philadelphia Eagles.

These are disappointing numbers after Golladay posted back-to-back 1,000-plus-yard seasons with the Detroit Lions.

Now, with the contract halfway over, Golladay is far from living up to that contract.

Here are two reasons why that is the case.

2.Nagging Injuries

In his first season with New York, Golladay dealt with a number of nagging injuries that limited his time on the field.

Last season, he had a knee injury that kept him out of three straight weeks.

This happened again this season, as he missed four games due to another knee injury.

He has also dealt with hip and hamstring problems, progressively dropping him on the Giants’ depth chart over time.

This has led to him being passed up, and now there hasn’t been a place for him on the field this year.

1. Wrong Schematic Fit

Golladay, with his 6-foot-4 frame, is meant to be a deep threat.

He showed this with the Lions, and it was a big reason for the Giants signing him.

However, that isn’t the Giants’ offense.

Daniel Jones succeeds on the field by taking what the defense gives him and not necessarily going for the big play.

Paired with Saquon Barkley, this makes the Giants effective.

Put this all together and Golladay has struggled to fit into this theme.

As Jones continues developing, there is a chance that Golladay could return to his deep threat form.

Until then, Golladay’s contract will continue to haunt the Giants.
