ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith is making his thoughts known about quarterback Zach Wilson.

He sees the situation that both Wilson and the New York Jets are in going into their game against the Detroit Lions.

With his eyes on the former first-round pick, he makes a bold statement on the future of Wilson as he returns as their starting quarterback.

Smith Sees This Game As Wilson’s Last Chance To Prove Himself

Even with this being Wilson’s second season with the Jets, Smith feels it might be his last season.

To him, his career is on the line, with any mistake being a death sentence for his NFL career.

This means the pressure is on the young quarterback to perform like an “NFL quarterback.”

With the Jets’ playoff hopes on the line, they can’t afford a loss to the Lions.

However, if Wilson can’t perform like a first-round quarterback, he has no hope in the NFL.

With the young quarterback already being sent to the bench earlier this season, it’s clear the Jets aren’t willing to deal with failure from him.

They already know Mike White can perform at a high level, unlike the former first-round pick.

But with him being out with an injury, it gives Wilson another chance to prove he belongs in the NFL.

While he might be a former high round pick, he’s not living up to the level of a first-round quarterback.

With the Lions being the worst defense in the NFL, Smith feels Wilson has no more excuses for his poor performances.
