The New York Giants just made a huge financial commitment to Daniel Jones, which is raising a lot of questions, criticism and even ridicule.
Jones is coming off the best season of his career, showing signs of promise under HC Brian Daboll, and the team expects the upward trend to continue for years to come.
They don’t seem to be as optimistic about their real best offensive player, though, as they continue to be in something of a contract matchup with Saquon Barkley.
Naturally, Jones could be hit hard by Barkley’s potential decision to hold out unless he gets a new deal, which is why he recently claimed both sides could work things out before it’s too late:
“Saquon is always working hard, he’s always going to be in good shape, he’s always going to look good,” Jones told The New York Post. “Anyone who has been close to him will expect that of him. We’re talking all the time, keeping in touch, meeting up when we can. I know that he has a lot of things to do, and I really hope that the two parties can come together.

Jones has been working out with his star running back on a public course in New Jersey.
Barkley is ineligible to participate in any OTAs or minicamps after refusing to sign his franchise tag due to that contract dispute, so they needed to find a way to get some reps together.
Truth be told, the Giants’ offense doesn’t stand a chance without Barkley on the field.
He’s their most disruptive offensive player and a guy who’s proven to be a tackle-breaking machine and a perennial big-play threat when healthy.
On the other hand, Barkley also needs the Giants just as much as they need him.
The fact that his own team isn’t willing to sign him to a big deal should be concerning enough that other teams take the same approach, so his chances of getting paid elsewhere are slim to none.
