The Tampa Bay Buccaneers won’t have Tom Brady behind center anymore, and that would obviously be a step back for any team.

They don’t exactly have the most impressive QB room in the league right now, and people aren’t even fully certain about who’s going to start for Todd Bowles in 2023.

However, if it were up to Ryan Leaf, there shouldn’t even be a debate, and Baker Mayfield should be QB1 from Week 1.

Leaf claimed that he was quite surprised to see that Mayfield didn’t stay in Los Angeles after how well he performed under Sean McVay, citing that Rams QB Matthew Stafford is a question mark right now because of his health.

He also said that he actually loves Mayfield, and he should obviously get an edge over both Kyle Trask and John Wolford.

The NFC South won’t be as competitive as it used to be, but most teams are slowly getting better and younger, which wasn’t the Buccaneers’ case.

Going from arguably the greatest quarterback in the history of this game to anyone else would be a big blow for any franchise, and no disrespect to Mayfield, Trask, or Wolford, but none of them sits at Brady’s table.

Then again, Mayfield is still young and there were many reasons why he went No. 1 in his class.

He’ll have a chip on his shoulder and a solid set of weapons at his disposal, and the division should be up for grabs, so it seems like it’s now or never for the former Oklahoma Sooner.
