The Green Bay Packers have still yet to trade superstar quarterback Aaron Rodgers to the New York Jets.
Rodgers recently let the NFL world know that he fully intends to play for the Jets next season after seriously considering retirement.
Although Rodgers let his intentions be known publicly, the Packers and Jets can’t seem to see eye-to-eye on a blockbuster deal to make it happen, preferably before the upcoming 2023 NFL Draft on April 27.
On Monday, Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst gave an update on the Rodgers situation and where trade talks with the Jets were at this point in time, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.
#Packers GM Brian Gutekunst just met with a small group of media here in Phoenix.
– No timeline on trading Aaron Rodgers, hoping soon
– Doesn’t necessarily need a first-round pick
– Any chance Rodgers plays for GB again? Not trending that way but “all options are on the table”— Tom Pelissero (@TomPelissero) March 27, 2023
At this point, it seems like anything can happen with these trade talks, as there’s a chance they could fall apart altogether.
The fact that there is no timetable for a deal to get done is probably the most concerning part of all of this due to the fact that the holdup appears to be the draft compensation coming back to Green Bay.
Unfortunately for Packers fans, it has become yet another waiting game involving Rodgers, who has likely driven the Green Bay faithful to the brink of exhaustion.
Only time will tell if the Packers and Jets can work something out where both teams feel they’ve been equally compensated in a blockbuster trade which will change the landscape of both conferences and divisions.
As for Rodgers, the four-time NFL MVP has remained quiet since his announcement about wanting to play for the Jets next season.
