2 Reasons The Bears Should Let Justin Fields Rest For 2023

During Week 12, the Chicago Bears let Justin Fields rest and started their backup quarterback against the New York Jets.

However, there is speculation that Fields might return to play this season if doctors clear him.

But doing this is disastrous, as he’s the franchise quarterback in Chicago.

With him being a valuable piece of the Bears offense, what are two reasons for the Bears to let the young quarterback rest for 2023?

2. The Bears Have No Hope Of Reaching The Playoffs In 2022

If the Bears want to reach the NFL playoffs, they need a ton of help.

Any loss by them is the start of them being eliminated from the playoffs.

However, win Week 13, the Bears can easily be eliminated from the playoffs.

To risk the health of Fields for meaningless games will put the franchise at risk.

If he were to further injure himself in a return during 2022, it could jeopardize the 2023 season.

This is a worst-case scenario the Bears can’t afford.

1. Resting Fields Gives Them A Chance To Evaluate Their Backup Quarterback

No NFL team ever wants to see their starting quarterback suffer an injury.

However, if they do, they want a solid backup quarterback to take over when they need them.

With their young quarterback on the sidelines, the Bears can evaluate their backup quarterbacks.

While it’s likely Trevor Siemian will start for the Bears with Fields being out, the team also has a third-string quarterback they can evaluate.

But if the Bears want to evaluate both quarterbacks, or just Siemian, now is the time for them to do this.
