Marcedes Lewis is officially a free agent, after expiring his contract with the Green Bay Packers.

Lewis is a 17-year NFL veteran, spending his career with the Jacksonville Jaguars and Packers.

Despite being 39 years old, Lewis has recently expressed that he would like to play at least one more season.

In a conversation with the Associated Press via the NFL website, Lewis said: “If you just look at my movie from the last three years, there’s no diminution in what I can do.”

Lewis doubled down on his statement, saying, “I’m the best blocking tight end there is.”

During his time with the Packers, Lewis was affectionately known as “big dog,” a term Aaron Rodgers frequently called him.

This public recognition has been great for Lewis, as it has shed light on a style of play that doesn’t always stand out.

Tight ends like Travis Kelce and Mark Andrews are praised for their offensive production, given their number of targets, yards, and touchdowns.

However, Lewis believes that while he’s not necessarily the pass catcher that Kelce and Andrews are, his role is essential to a team.

By having a tight end like Lewis blocking an offense, they can continue to set up the run and allow the rest of the players in skill positions to thrive.

Since Lewis is a free agent, he can sign with any team he wants, assuming a contract can be set up.

Will a team use Lewis’ skill set this season, knowing that he is 39 years old?
