Yankees Insider Comments On Giancarlo Stanton’s Injury

The weekend did not yield positive injury news for the New York Yankees.

One of their best players, Giancarlo Stanton, was diagnosed with a Grade 2 hamstring strain that will immediately send him to the injured list.

Oswald Peraza has been called up to fill in for him, but his stay with the Yankees is expected to be short this time since Josh Donaldson will return from the IL this week.

It’s not the first time Stanton has dealt with lower body injuries in his career.

In fact, recent years have been full of them: he had a calf strain in May 2022, a quad strain in May 2021, and a hamstring strain in August 2020.

You can add the 2023 hamstring strain to make it four consecutive years.

ESPN’s Marly Rivera, who covers the Yankees on a daily basis, offered some thoughts about Stanton’s potential timeframe for recovery.

She says these injuries (Grade 2 hamstring strains) usually take between four and six weeks to heal.

“Of course, some injuries heal faster. And I’m not a doctor nor play one on Twitter. But this is, generally, an expected timeline. Generally, when it comes to Grade 1-2 strains, the range can vary from 3 to 8 weeks, all depending on the individual plus the severity,” she tweeted.

You can definitely expect the Yankees to play things slow with Stanton’s recovery and be closer to the eight-week mark than the three-week one.

Stanton was off to a good, not great, start of the season, with a .250/.283/.500 line and three home runs.

His powerful bat will be missed in the middle of the Yankees lineup.

They are currently down Donaldson and Harrison Bader among regular position players.
