The New York Yankees got some bad news on Thursday when it was revealed that left-hander Carlos Rodon would begin the 2023 season on the injured list after suffering a right forearm strain.

Since the 2022 trade deadline, the Yankees have been dealing some tough blows with their pitching staff.

Rodon will join Frankie Montas as the second Yankees starter to begin the season on the injured list.

However, it isn’t just Rodon and Montas the Yankees have to worry about.

In fact, several relievers will also be beginning the season on the injured list.

Reliever Scott Effross will miss most of the season as he recovers from Tommy John surgery, and Tommy Kahnle and Lou Trivino are also on the shelf.

What makes matters worse for the Yankees is that each pitcher starting the season on the injured list was added to the team either at or after the 2022 trade deadline.

Effross was picked up from the Chicago Cubs, but injured his elbow during the postseason.

Trivino was acquired in the Montas trade with the Oakland Athletics.

Kahnle, who previously pitched with the Yankees from 2017-2021, was signed by the team this offseason after a strong return last September with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Unfortunately, each and every pitcher the Yankees have acquired since the deadline is now injured and will be starting the season on the injured list, which is bad news for the team.

Fans are certainly hoping that Rodon won’t be out for long, but arm injuries are always an issue.
