The Chicago Cubs should be an interesting team to watch in 2023.
After all, they made some key moves, signing Dansby Swanson, Cody Bellinger, Trey Mancini, Eric Hosmer, and Jameson Taillon.
Unfortunately, they’ll be without Willson Contreras, who signed a five-year deal to join the rival St. Louis Cardinals.
Contreras was a rookie when the Cubs won the World Series in 2016.
Now, the longtime fan favorite is on the other side of the historic rivalry.
And his comments about playing for the Cardinals as opposed to playing in Chicago will have Cubs fans feeling very upset, and maybe even jealous.
Contreras compares the #STLCards and Cubs organizations: “For me, I like this better. It’s a better organization. Old school way, which I love it. … Ever since I got here it’s been everything just one way. The Cardinal way.” pic.twitter.com/WAOhMYsKwW

Contreras made a bold statement recently before the Cardinals’ spring training opener, saying that he prefers the way the team runs their organization over how the Cubs operate.
This is definitely going to ruffle the feathers of many Cubs fans.
Cardinals fans likely felt the same way after Jason Heyward left for the Cubs after the 2015 season and commented on how the team’s core was aging and that the Cubs were set up for long-term success.
If anything, Contreras is simply adding fuel to the fire of this legendary rivalry.
He’s certainly ready to get going with the Cardinals.
Meanwhile, the Cubs are looking better, but fans certainly are not going to be pleased after hearing Contreras put things as bluntly as possible, saying that he likes being a Cardinal better than he liked being a Cub.
The Cardinals make their first trip to Chicago in May.
