For the first time since late May, the St. Louis Cardinals secured a series win, taking two out of three games from the New York Mets.

They lost an early lead on Sunday, but ultimately pulled away with an important win.

Nolan Arenado’s ninth-inning home run put them ahead 8-7, where they would stay.

The last time St. Louis won a series was May 18-21 when they hosted the Los Angeles Dodgers.

But when Arenado put them back ahead, it ignited a spark on the bench.

On Twitter, St. Louis sports radio host Brandon Kiley posted a video of the reaction from the bench after Arenado’s clutch home run.

The home run from Arenado proved to be the difference in the game on Sunday.

It also seemed to light a fire under the team.

Arenado’s teammates let loose on the bench and cheered raucously after he put them ahead by a run in the ninth inning.

And an important win such as Sunday’s could be one that serves as a springboard for the slumping Cardinals, who now no longer have the worst record in the National League.

That now belongs to the Washington Nationals.

St. Louis snapped a six-game losing skid on Saturday and put themselves in position to take the series on Sunday.

And it almost seemed as if Arenado’s home run could have been a potential turning point for a team that has labored in last place for most of the season.

Arenado hit two home runs on Sunday to lead St. Louis to a Father’s Day win over the Mets.
