The New York Yankees’ position players aren’t supposed to report to camp until next week.

Pitchers and catchers will report starting tomorrow.

However, a group of position players have reported early, showing they are committed to improving as a group and reaching top shape in time before the season starts.

“Aaron Judge, DJ LeMahieu, Gleyber Torres, Isiah Kiner-Falefa and Aaron Boone are among a group of Yankees that showed up early for Spring Training, per @BryanHoch. Here’s Judge taking batting practice,” Talkin’ Yanks tweeted.

The Yankees offense was among the best in baseball last season during the first half.

In late July, however, their bats – except for Judge – went ice-cold, and that situation extended to the postseason.

Their bats looked helpless against the Houston Astros’ pitching in the AL Championship Series.

It’s nice to see some struggling hitters from last year taking things seriously and willing to report earlier than expected in order to find their best swing.

Judge, on the other hand, doesn’t really need to improve anything, though.

He must, however, get his timing back after a long layoff.

He hit .311/.425/.686 last year, with 62 home runs and 131 RBI.

This included a 207 wRC+, meaning he was 107 percent better than the average hitter: that’s historically good.

He is reporting early because he wants to set an example.

Judge is the captain now: everybody looks up to him and with good reason.

He is a dedicated worker and an extremely talented baseball player.

To reach what he has reached and accomplish what he has, players need to put in the work.

So far, so good for the Yankees’ new leader.
