If teams try to compete and have a modicum of success, their fans will catch the fever and interest about and around the team will grow.
If you don’t believe us, look at the Cincinnati Reds.
They have a 28-33 record, which doesn’t seem particularly great on the surface.
Everything, however, is about context.
The Reds started off the 2022 season with a 3-22 record and finished with just 62 wins and 100 losses.
They were a disaster, both on the field and regarding their public image.
Now, they are playing almost .500 ball and are five games out of first place in the NL Central.
Fans are hyped.

It’s great to see.
That’s how every fanbase in MLB deserves to feel.
It’s not just Elly De La Cruz and Matt McLain, who are excellent prospects ready to succeed in the majors (the latter has been doing it for a few weeks, the former was just called up on Tuesday).
They also have youth all over the roster and the minors: Spencer Steer, Jonathan India, Andrew Abbott, Hunter Greene, Nick Lodolo, Alexis Diaz, and more.
Christian Encarnacion-Strand is also waiting on the wings in Triple-A as another impact bat to plug in the big league lineup whenever he is needed.
The Reds are putting together a competitive team.
That alone is a huge success, regardless of whether they make the postseason or not.
