Trey Mancini is one of many new faces on a young Chicago Cubs roster.
The North Siders signed the veteran slugger to a two-year, $14 million contract in mid-January.
He joins Dansby Swanson, Jameson Taillon, Cody Bellinger, Eric Hosmer, Tucker Barnhart, and Michael Fulmer as one of the new additions for a Cubs team that looks prepared to take the next step in 2023.
On Wednesday, MLB Network analysts Stephen Nelson and Yonder Alonso stopped by the Cubs camp in Mesa, Arizona and got a chance to catch up with Mancini, who discussed his mindset for 2023 and his excitement for the chance to play with a talented young core in Chicago. .

Mancini mentioned that even before signing with the Cubs, he had taken note of all the moves that the team had been making this past offseason, and cited that as a reason why he was drawn to the club.
He also talked about how the Cubs finished the 2022 season strong and ignited some hope for 2023, which he believes that combined with the team’s core of stars, it could be a recipe for a fun season on the North Side of Chicago.
Mancini discussed the importance of veteran leadership and instilling confidence in the younger players, helping them understand what it takes to win and what to expect.
He was then asked about what Cubs fans can expect to see from him in 2023.
Mancini talked about how he wants to get back to driving the ball up the middle, something he struggled with in 2022.
He closed his statement by saying that the Cubs expect to win a lot of games this season.
