Top Yankees Prospect Continues To Have A Breakout Spring

New York Yankees prospect Jasson Dominguez is still a year away from being ready to excel at the MLB level.

It’s more about his age (he is still 20 years old) and the fact he has just five games in Double-A rather than a lack of skills because he is, evidently, a future star in the league.

Despite the fact he has just 22 plate appearances in the high minors (Double-A and Triple-A) Dominguez received an invitation to the Yankees’ training camp in Florida.

He is not just holding his own there: he is performing admirably, like a seasoned veteran.

We have said countless times that spring training should be taken with a grain of salt because of many variables.

People are trying new pitches, they aren’t using their full velocity, some of them are just returning from long-term absences, and several other situations and reasons that put hitters who have had a full, normal offseason to prepare at an advantage.

However, what “The Martian” is doing is nothing short of amazing, even if the sample size is still minuscule.

He has a 1.417 OPS and a couple of home runs in his first six games.

Dominguez had a phenomenal season in A-ball last year as a 19-year-old.

Between Low-A, High-A, and Double-A, he slugged 16 home runs and stole 37 bases.

He has a chance to develop into a 30-30 center fielder, which would make him one of the most valuable commodities in the game.

He will need to show he can handle Double-A first, though.

Once he does that, an assignment at Triple-A will follow.

He has a small chance of making his debut in 2023, but 2024 is looking more likely.

In any case, fans are already excited about his considerable potential.
