When a new video game about one of the top three American professional leagues – NBA, NFL, and MLB – is released, one of the things that fans comment and discuss the most are the overall ratings of players.
This is actually a hot discussion topic most of the time.
This player is rated too low, this one is too high, “X” is rated accordingly…they are actually really fun conversations because every person has a different view.
Player ratings for MLB The Show, the famous baseball video game series, have become public.
Talkin’ Baseball posted the top 12, and they look like this:

Those ratings are very much on point.
Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani both deserve their 99 rating.
The former is not the defensive player he once was, but makes up for it with his unmatched hitting skills.
He was on a record home run pace last year: in just 119 games, he hit 40 home runs.
Had he stayed healthy, he could have easily set a new career-high.
We probably don’t need to tell you Ohtani deserves a 99.
The guy posted a 2.33 ERA and hit 34 home runs last year.
He didn’t even win the MVP award because a guy named Aaron Judge hit 62 home runs and cemented his place as a 99 player himself.
If we had to nitpick, Paul Goldschmidt and Jacob deGrom are likely half a tier below the top trio, but we won’t argue with the guy who won the 2022 NL MVP and a two-time Cy Young winner who is still the best pitcher in MLB when healthy.
We can’t wait for the experience that playing the video game will represent.
