Legendary quarterback Tom Brady’s NFL career is now in the past tense, and he is set to become an analyst for Fox Sports’ broadcasts during the 2024 season.
However, nothing can compare to getting out there on the field and playing the game he has loved since he was a little kid.
Brady’s father worries that activities such as being a broadcaster, business opportunities and the like simply won’t fill the void of playing football now that his son has left the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Most people, especially “normal” people, can’t wait to retire and don’t have to go back to that day job that they hate or at least don’t love.
But once they retire, they often feel there is a big void in their lives, and they may be bored, as they don’t have the money to fill their lives with the type of activities that can bring them sunshine and happiness.
For former pro athletes, especially those who treated winning as a life-or-death proposition, the transition is even worse.
Many have tried broadcasting, playing golf or being an entrepreneur to fill the void, but there is no substitute for the adrenaline rush that comes with facing fierce competition and either being cheered or jeered by fans.
In addition, many former athletes say the thing they miss most about the game is the camaraderie and male bonding with their teammates.
Brady has accomplished enough to fill at least two great careers, so many may think he is self-actualized and has no need for a competitive outlet anymore.
But he, like the rest of us, is a flawed and sensitive human being, and he simply cannot live on his old press clippings.
It will be interesting to see if Brady can resist the competitive urges that may make him want to unretire once again.
